Thailand Privilege Visa: Is It Worth It?
Thailand Privilege sells a long-stay visa you don't have to qualify for. It doesn't sell work rights, a tax break or a refund. This guide covers every tier, the real cost per year against the DTV, LTR and retirement visas, the family add-on, and who should pick something cheaper.
Published October 4, 2026
Checked as of October 2026. Exchange rate: ฿33.5 = $1. Fees and terms are from Thailand Privilege's own website and membership contracts, as of 4 October 2026.
Thailand Privilege sells convenience. It doesn't sell rights.
฿900,000 buys you five years in Thailand. It doesn't buy you the right to work one day of it. No tax break. No exemption from 90-day reporting. No refund if you leave after two years. What you get is a long-stay visa you don't have to qualify for, and someone to help you through the immigration lines.
Here's the honest price. The Gold membership works out to ฿180,000 a year (about $5,373). The DTV costs about ฿2,000 a year. The LTR, about ฿5,000. The retirement route, about ฿2,000 a year in fees, plus ฿800,000 you park in a Thai bank and keep.
So the real question: is skipping the qualifying, and some of the queuing, worth roughly ฿175,000 a year more than the next option? For most people, no. For a few, clearly yes. Here's how to tell which one you are.
The short version
Thailand Privilege (formerly Thailand Elite) is run by Thailand Privilege Card Co. (TPC), a subsidiary of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. You pay a membership fee. The membership comes with a visa.
| Tier | Price | ≈ USD | Membership term | Visa | Points a year | Family add-on |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze ⚠️ | ฿650,000 | $19,403 | 5 years | 5-year multiple entry | 0 | No |
| Gold | ฿900,000 | $26,866 | 5 years | 5-year multiple entry | 20 | No |
| Platinum | ฿1,500,000 | $44,776 | 10 years | 5-year multiple entry, renewed to cover the term | 35 | Yes |
| Diamond | ฿2,500,000 | $74,627 | 15 years | 5-year multiple entry, renewed | 55 | Yes |
| Reserve | ฿5,000,000 | $149,254 | "20 Years ++", invitation only | 5-year multiple entry, renewed | 120 | Yes |
Prices include VAT. Source: TPC tier data and membership T&Cs, 4 October 2026.
⚠️ Bronze is listed as open on the official site as of 4 October 2026, but it's reported to be ending. It has been "ending" before and been extended. Check before you apply.
Every tier gives up to 1 year per entry, extendable in Thailand. A 10-year Platinum membership is not a 10-year visa. It's a 5-year visa, renewed once.
One trap on the same website: Lite (฿9,900), Lifestyle (฿150,000), Beyond (฿250,000) and Corporate (฿500,000) are one-year perk packages. They come with no visa.
What you actually get
The visa. A Privilege Entry Visa: five years, multiple entry, up to a year each time you arrive. It's stamped at Immigration in Thailand or on arrival at the airport. You can extend a stay in-country. The standard Immigration extension fee is ฿1,900; TPC doesn't publish a separate figure for members.
The points. Gold gets 20 a year, Platinum 35, Diamond 55, Reserve 120. Use them within the year. They don't carry over, and you can't transfer or cash them. Reported perks include airport fast-track immigration, short airport transfers, a contact centre, a liaison at immigration appointments, and spa, golf and health checks paid for in points.
TPC's contract lets it "charge, change, modify, cancel … any of the Privileges … without prior notice." So don't buy this for a perk list. Price the visa as if the points were worth zero. Anything you get from them is a bonus.
What it is not
Not a work visa. Nothing in the contract gives employment rights. No Thai job, no "digital nomad" allowance.
Not a tax break. There's no tax concession anywhere in the T&Cs. Spend 180 days or more in Thailand in a tax year and you're a Thai tax resident, under the same rules as everyone else, including tax on foreign income you bring in. Do I owe Thai tax?
Not an exemption from reporting. Every applicant signs a declaration accepting these as their duties:
- 90-day reporting, when you stay 90 days in a row. More in the visa admin cheat sheet.
- TM30, the residence record. More in the visa admin cheat sheet.
- Presenting yourself to Immigration when you stay 365 days in a row.
TPC helps with the queuing. Bangkok members using its 90-day service drop their passport at TPC's head office on Monday (08:30–16:30) and collect it on Friday (13:00–16:00). Useful. But it's still your report.
Not a path to anything. No permanent residence, no citizenship, no property rights.
The family add-on
Only Platinum, Diamond and Reserve let you add family. Bronze and Gold don't. On Gold, a couple needs two separate memberships.
A "Next Member" can be a parent, step-parent, spouse, civil-union partner, or a child (biological or adopted). Points go into one shared family pool.
| Tier | Regular price per Next Member | Current promo |
|---|---|---|
| Platinum | ฿1,000,000 ($29,851) | ฿750,000 ($22,388) |
| Diamond | ฿1,500,000 ($44,776) | ฿750,000 |
| Reserve | ฿2,000,000 ($59,701) | ฿750,000 |
TPC announced the ฿750,000 promo on 14 August 2026. Its post doesn't state an end date. Agents say 31 December 2026; TPC hasn't confirmed that. Promos come and go: it was ฿500,000 from July to September 2025.
The maths for a couple:
- Platinum + one Next Member at the promo: ฿2.25M over 10 years = ฿225,000 a year for two (about $6,716).
- The same at the regular price: ฿2.5M = ฿250,000 a year.
- Two Gold memberships: ฿1.8M over 5 years = ฿360,000 a year for two.
If you're a couple or a family planning to stay for years, Platinum is where this starts to make sense.
Eligibility and the background check
Most nationalities can apply, at any age. The contract's rules:
- No prison sentence in any country, except petty offences or negligence
- Not bankrupt. No arrest warrant or watch-list entry
- Never deported
- No money laundering or financial crime
- No more than one overstay in Thailand in the past 3 years
- A passport with more than 1 year of validity and at least 3 blank pages
More than one passport? Everyone signs a Multiple Passports and Nationalities Declaration. If you hold more than one, you also need your original-nationality passport(s), proof of renunciation if any, proof of income and source of funds, and proof of permanent residence for the past 6 months. That's more paperwork than most people expect from a visa sold on having none.
You consent to checks by the Royal Thai Police, the Immigration Bureau and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Consular Department.
Timing: TPC publishes no timeline. Agents say 6–10 weeks. TPC itself posted a notice about background-check delays in January 2026. Budget 2–3 months.
How to apply
- Pick a channel. Apply direct to TPC, or through a licensed agent (a GSSA, General Sales & Services Agent). The form has a field for the agent's code.
- Submit the forms: application and consent forms, a colour passport scan, a photo, your current Thai visa or entry stamp, any overstay history, and the declaration. For family, add marriage or birth certificates.
- The application fee. TPC's contract lists ฿50,000, refunded if TPC rejects you, credited toward the membership if it approves you. TPC ran a promo waiving it in 2024, and some agents now say there's no fee. Whether it's collected upfront right now is unclear, so ask. Either way, it isn't an extra cost.
- Background check. TPC sends your file to the government agencies.
- Approval, then pay. Pay the full fee to TPC's own account (Krung Thai Bank, Empire Tower branch) by the deadline in your approval letter, without deducting bank charges. Miss the deadline and the approval is automatically revoked.
- Visa and activation. You get a welcome letter and a member ID, the visa is stamped in Thailand or at the airport, and you activate the card online, in the app or through the contact centre.
Pay TPC, never an agent. The fee goes to TPC's Krung Thai account. If an agent asks you to pay their account, adds "processing" charges, or promises work rights, walk away.
Cost per year, compared
| Route | Upfront cost | Term | ≈ per year | Stay per entry | What you must prove | Work | Tax perk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Privilege Gold | ฿900,000 | 5 years | ฿180,000 ($5,373) | Up to 1 year | A clean record | No | No |
| Privilege Platinum | ฿1,500,000 | 10 years | ฿150,000 ($4,478) | Up to 1 year | A clean record | No | No |
| DTV | ฿10,000 ($400 at US missions) | 5 years | ~฿2,000 | 180 days, +180 | ฿500,000 in funds, remote work | Foreign clients only | No |
| LTR | ฿50,000 | 10 years | ~฿5,000 | Long stay, annual report | $80,000 income, or wealth | Depends on category | Yes, for 3 categories |
| Retirement | ~฿1,900 per extension | Yearly | ~฿2,000 + ฿800,000 parked | 1 year | Age 50+, ฿800,000 or ฿65,000 a month | No | No |
Two things the brochure doesn't put up front.
Platinum is cheaper per year than Gold. ฿150,000 against ฿180,000. Ten years on Gold means buying it twice: ฿1.8M at today's price, against ฿1.5M for Platinum. If you're sure you'll stay ten years, Gold is the expensive option. Upgrading Gold to Platinum later costs a ฿100,000 fee plus the ฿600,000 difference.
The retirement visa keeps your money. Privilege keeps theirs. The ฿800,000 a retiree parks in a Thai bank is still theirs. A Privilege fee is gone. Gold is about 90 times the DTV fee, and about ฿15,000 a month.
Who it actually suits
- People who don't fit a box. Under 50, no remote job, not at LTR-level income or wealth, and wanting years here. Privilege asks for a clean record, not a category.
- Frequent travellers who hate visa admin. Multiple entry, up to a year each time, and help with the queues.
- Families planning a long stay. Platinum plus Next Members, especially while the ฿750,000 promo runs.
- People whose time is worth more than ฿15,000 a month. That's what Gold costs. If an afternoon at Immigration costs you more than that in lost work or sanity, the maths can work.
Who should pick something else
- Remote workers who qualify for the DTV. Five years for ฿10,000. The DTV guide
- Remote employees and high earners who qualify for the LTR. Cheaper, longer, and it comes with a tax perk for three of its four categories. The LTR guide
- Retirees aged 50+ who can park ฿800,000. You keep the money. Retiring in Thailand: the visa options
- Anyone who isn't sure they'll stay. Five years of fees, no refund.
Still working out what kind of move this is? Start with which kind of expat you are. I'd answer that before spending ฿900,000.
The pitfalls
Non-refundable. The declaration says "non-refundable under any circumstances." It means it. You lose the fee if you stop meeting a qualification, if your information proves false, if you're refused entry, or if your visa application is denied after you join. There's no refund to your estate if you die. The only refund in the contract is a pro-rata one if government policy stops TPC operating.
Non-transferable. Current memberships can't be sold or passed to anyone, family included. (Some pre-October 2023 memberships can be transferred, for a fee. That doesn't apply to new ones.)
The terms favour TPC. It can change perks without notice. Its interpretation of the contract is "conclusive." Its liability is capped at the fee you paid.
Points expire every year. Use them or lose them. Again: value them at zero when you decide.
Bronze uncertainty. If a cheaper Bronze is what makes this work for you, confirm it's still open with TPC directly before you apply.
